Air Force had two more top-10 program swims on the day
HOUSTON, Texas – The Air Force Academy women's swimming and diving team concluded action at the Phill Hansel Invitational Sunday afternoon, Nov. 18. The Falcons finished with a team score of 450 over the three-day event to finish in ninth place.
The host Cougars of Houston won the team title with 1,727 points. The Falcons finished ahead of Northern Colorado (415), Incarnate Word (274) and North Texas (158).
Highlighting the day was another pair of top-10 program times, both coming in the 200 breaststroke. Freshman Caroline Wittich, who already had the tenth-fastest Academy time in the event earlier this year, improved her time to fifth-best all-time with a 2:16.78 in the finals today. That was good for a 12th place finish in the event. Entering the top-10 was fellow freshman Evelyn Johnson, as her time of 2:20.17 is good for tenth at the Academy. She finished 14th in the event.
Air Force's highest individual race finish came courtesy of sophomore Kylie Stronko in the 200 back, as she took eighth out of 50 swimmers with a time of 2:00.35. Over at diving, the platform was the final event contested. Freshman Cristin Von Schlag qualified for the A final with a prelim score of 180.50. In the final, she took seventh with a 176.15. Fellow freshman Krystal Irwin took first in the B final with a 184.80, which was good for ninth overall.
Elsewhere, the Falcons took 11th in the final event of the weekend, the 400 free relay. The top finisher in the final individual events were senior Elisabeth Brechbuhl in the 1650 free, as she took 21st. Junior Autumn Wolfgramm placed 34th in the 100 free, while freshman Emily Bardak was the Academy's top placer in the 200 fly, taking 22nd.
