Air Force women's tennis was eliminated from the main draw of the doubles competition at the 2018 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships, on Wednesday, Nov. 7, at the Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex in Surprise, Ariz. The duo of junior TJ Fumagalli and freshman Kristin Kerrigan lost their opening match to the doubles duo from UCLA.
The Falcons dropped a pair of 6-3 sets to sixth-seeded Ayan Broomfield and Gabby Andrews of UCLA. The duo lost for just the second time this fall.
Fumagalli and Kerrigan made history for the program, becoming the first-ever to represent Air Force at the Fall nationals.
"The UCLA team was good and was the number six seed for a reason," Air Force head coach Kim Gidley said. "We dug a hole for ourselves by just not executing the basics, and at this level, it is crucial. Our team kept fighting though and worked themselves back into both sets, but weren't able to capture enough momentum."
The Falcons return to action tomorrow in the backdraw, taking on Tulsa at 7:30 pm.
"This will be good for our team to see if they can convert on what they learned from today," Gidley said.
