Air Force Collects Eight Wins at Regional Semifinal

RENO, Nev. – The Air Force boxing team posted an impressive 8-1 record this evening (March 16) during the semifinal round of action at the National Collegiate Boxing Association's Western Regional in Reno.
RJ Leon opened the night for Air Force with a 112-pound decision over Utah's Jinno Guevara, while senior Osama Farqaleet earned a 125-pound victory over California's Eric Pan. A pair of referee-stopped bouts book-ended a 147-pound victory by Levi Rate (decision over San Jose State's James Jun), as Josh Turner forced the referee to halt his 139-pound bout with Dylan Mahood in the first round and Devon Smith caused a stoppage in his 156-pound bout with San Jose State's Marquest Mahood. Levi Knox decisioned Nevada's Nate Strother at 165 pounds, while Neptaly Trujillo and Austin Dreyer closed out the night with back-to-back victories at 175 pounds (decision over California's Larry Renteria) and 185 pounds (decision over Utah's Darron Brown).
Sean Chieves also competed this evening, falling by decision to Nevada's Dustin Congdon at 132 pounds.
The women's club team posted a 2-1 record during the semifinals. Alex Reveles decisioned Washington's Thea Weiss in the 112-pound bout, while Laura Drapinski defeated Breanna Emery in a referee-stopped contest in the 119-pound contest. Abigail Alecia also competed in the national semifinals, dropping a 132-pound bout to Linghong Schoch.
The men, who secured their bid to nationals this evening, return to the El Dorado Hotel and Casino tomorrow (March 17) night for the championship round of the NCBA Western Regional.
