
Air Force Edged In Extra Innings At New Mexico

Air Force baseball (9-13, 3-5 MW) lost 12-11 in 10 innings at New Mexico (9-12-1, 3-5 MW) in a Mountain West road game Saturday afternoon at Santa Ana Star Field in Albuquerque, N.M. Danny Collier hit a walkoff home run in the 10th inning for the Lobos.
The game was a see-saw battle that saw seven blown leads between the two teams.
Collier finished the game by hitting for the cycle with four hits, scoring three runs and driving in three. New Mexico had 14 hits on the day.
Air Force had 15 hits with home runs by Colby Brown and Ashton Easley. Brown, an Albuquerque native, went 2 for 4 with four RBIs. Easley went 2 for 5 with two runs. Ryan Robb, Tyler Zabojnik, Nic Ready and Drew Wiss also had two hits each. Zabojnik hit two doubles.
Josh Leaser (1-1) took the loss in relief for the Falcons. Starter Matt Hargreaves struck out six in 3.1 innings. Luke Chilcutt, Shawn Kelley and Jake Gilbert also pitched in relief.
Drew Gillespie (2-0) picked up the win in relief. Lobo starter Robert Gasser allowed four runs in 3.1 innings, striking out six.
Air Force scored three runs in the third to break up a scoreless game. New Mexico responded with four runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 4-3 lead. The Falcons tied it up with a run in the fourth, before the Lobos scored two in the bottom of the inning.
Air Force scored three in the sixth to go up 7-6. New Mexico came back with two runs in the seventh to re-take a 8-7 lead.
Brown then hit a two-run homer in the eighth to put the Falcons back ahead 9-8. The Lobos scored three in the bottom of the eighth to go back up 11-9.
Air Force tied it up with a bases loaded walk and hit by pitch in the ninth. New Mexico rallied to the win with Collier's homer in the 10th.
Air Force wraps up the three-game series with New Mexico tomorrow. First pitch is 1 pm MT.
