
Falcon Lacrosse Falls to Michigan, 14-9

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — A fourth-period surge lifted Michigan to a 14-9 victory over Air Force, delivering the Falcons their third-straight loss of the season, Friday evening in non-conference play in Ann Arbor, Mich. Senior Andrew Tien notched his first hat trick of the season in the loss. The Falcons fall to 1-5 as they head to Detroit, Mich., for their second game of the weekend.
Air Force jumped out to an early lead, notching three goals while freshman keeper Braden Host fended off a barrage of Michigan shots to hold them scoreless in the first period. Tien notched the first goal of the game at the 10:57 mark. Jack Flynn followed up with goal in an unassisted attack at the 8:25 mark. With 3:12 remaining in the first period, Host netted a save and quickly found Quincy Peene in full stride down field. The freshman received the ball and cocked back, sending a ripper into the back of the Wolverines' net for his first career goal. Host was credited with the assist.
The Wolverines found their scoring rhythm in the second period, outscoring the Falcons, 5-2, putting up the first two goals of the period. Carter responded with a goal at the 9:02 mark to extend the Falcons' lead, 4-2. Moments later, Flynn found Trey Lervick open for a shot which he redirected past the Michigan keeper. The Wolverines responded with three-straight goals to close the half knotted at five.
The Falcons and Wolverines split the third period with three goals apiece. Carter netted his second goal at 13:46 followed up by Tien's second at the 7:20 mark via Lervick's assist in a man-up situation. Flynn connected with Lervick again for his second goal with 4:40 left in the third period. Michigan tallied two more goals, including the equalizer, before the period ended.
The fourth period belonged to the Wolverines as they outscored Air Force, 6-1. Michigan took its first lead of the game at 13:11 via Brent Noseworthy's second goal of the game. The Wolverines tallied two more goals before Tien notched his hat trick goal at the 9:30 mark. Michigan added four more goals from the 4:37 mark down to the final seconds of the game. When the dust was settled, Michigan came out on top with a five goal lead to improve 4-2 on the season.
Flynn, Lervick and Tien recorded three-point games, led by Tien's hat trick. Tien and Nick Hruby led Air Force with four shots apiece. Harper remains undefeated at the face off X, winning 14-26 (.538) on the day. Harper also led the squad with seven ground balls.
Air Force continues non-conference action on the road against Detroit Mercy, Sun., Mar. 11, at noon (ET). The Falcons and Titans are meeting for the fifth time; Air Force is unbeaten in the four-game series.
