3/20/2026 2:27:00 PM | Men's Lacrosse
GAME 08
Air Force (1-6) at Providence (4-5)
Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium
Providence, R.I.
A Brief History
It's been 18 years since these teams last faced off—Air Force leads the three-game series, 2-1. All three meetings have been decided by a one-goal differential, and both AF wins went to overtime. The visit to Chapey Field marks the Falcons' first visit to Providence's turf.
A Look at the Friars
Providence will take the field under the command of head coach Bobby Benson in his fourth season at the helm. Benson has led the Friars to three-straight Big East semifinal appearances.
Providence has four scorers with double-digit goals this season, led by Joseph Richie with 17 goals. Teammates Rhett Chambers (16g, 19a) and Matt Lazzaro (16g, 11a) will look to facilitate scoring. The Friars' Ian Olenik leads the defense with 14 CTOs and 24 ground balls. In goal, Cam Sterritt has made all nine starts. Sterritt has a 10.18 GAA and a .551 save percentage.
In the Doldrums—For now
The Falcons are on a six-game skid since their season-opening win on February 1 and are averaging just 8.00 goals in those six losses. Despite the turbulence, Air Force tends to bounce back well, turning three of the last four losing starts into winning seasons in the ASUN Conference.
Caelan Driggs Aims for All-Time Goals Record
Senior attacker Caelan Driggs scored his 105th career goal last weekend. Driggs is now fourth in the all-time goals category. Mike Crampton (2011-14) holds the record with 127 to his credit. Driggs also has 125 career points, ranking eighth all time.
Cunningham Moves into the Record Book
C1C Cole Cunningham, a groundball vacuum, has moved into the all-time top 10 ground balls leaders. Cunningham, with 34 this season and 167 career ground balls, is now tied for eighth with Bryan Gilbreath (2008-11). His 85 ground balls last season were enough for sixth in single-season ground balls.
Fantastic Freshman
C4C attacker Christian Schweiger is a force to be reckoned with in the mid-season. A native of Lebanon, New Jersey, Schweiger leads the Falcons with 14 goals and seven assists so far this season. He has four hat tricks in six appearances, including three-goal games against No. 5 Duke and No. 10 Ohio State.
A Look Ahead
The Falcons return to USAFA to open ASUN Conference play against Jacksonville on March 28. Action at Falcon Stadium is scheduled for noon MT. Fans can tune into a live broadcast on ESPN+.
