
Falcons earn first win with 8-7 victory over Concordia

Coach Ryan Brown, in his first season, earned his first win with the Falcons
U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Air Force water polo coach Ryan Brown earned his first victory as the Falcons' head coach with an 8-7 victory over Concordia (Calif.), Saturday, Sept. 1, at the Triton Invitational in La Jolla, Calif.
In the first game of the day, Air Force fell to No. 3 California, 16-5. Senior Justin Harrison put the Falcons on the board just 19 seconds into the game. Harrison's second of the game, tied the game at 2-2 at 5:59 of the first quarter. Cal then scored eight straight goals to take a 10-2 lead into the half. Senior Ryan Dorris scored for the Falcons in the third, but the Bears took a 13-3 lead into the fourth quarter. Junior Luke Andres and freshman Corey Tanis scored goals in the fourth quarter to make up the final margin.
In game two, the Falcons had to come from behind for the 8-7 win over Concordia. Edward Smet and Eric Kawecki scored for the Falcons in the first period, but the Eagles had a 3-2 lead at the end of the first. Concordia outscored Air Force, 3-0, in the second quarter and held a 6-2 lead at the half. The third quarter was all Air Force as the Falcons outscored the Eagles, 4-0. After a goal by Andres, Harrison scored twice to cut the Concordia lead to 6-5. With 1:24 left in the third, Reagan Pittman tied the game with his first goal of the season. Concordia regained the lead just 22 seconds into the fourth, but the Falcons battled back. Mike Miller tied the game with 3:05 left and Andres netted the game-winner with 2:31 remaining.
Harrison led the Falcons with four goals on the day while Andres had three.
