Air Force will compete at the 30th-annual event in Lincoln, Neb., on Saturday, Sept. 15.
The Air Force cross country team, which includes the 16th-ranked men, returns to action this Saturday (Sept. 15), when its runners travel to Lincoln, Neb., for the 30th-annual Woody Greeno/Jay Dirksen Invitational. Action gets underway for the Falcons at 9:00 a.m. (CT) at Mahoney Golf Course.
MEET INFORMATION
The Greeno/Dirksen Invitational, jointly hosted by Nebraska and Nebraska Wesleyan, will take place at Mahoney Golf Course (7900 Adams Street in Lincoln) this season. Due to heat and humidity projected for Saturday, the start times for both races have been moved up one hour ... the women's 6K race will now kick off the day at 9:00 a.m., while the men's 8K will follow at 9:45 a.m. (all times Central). Spectator parking will be in Mahoney Park and admission to the meet is $5.
NEW SURROUNDINGS
This is the first year that the Greeno/Dirksen Invitational will be held at Mahoney Golf Course.
HISTORY 101
The men have claimed the University team title seven times (2000, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2011, 2012, 2016), while sharing the title with Nebraska in 1999. Individually, Jim Walmsley captured back-to-back titles in 2010-11. The women have also captured a team title at that meet, as they won the 2012 title to snap Nebraska's seven-year stretch of victories.
MEN HOLD STEADY AT NO. 16 IN NATIONAL RANKINGS
The men remained at No. 16 in the first USTFCCCA coaches' poll of the 2018 regular season, which was released on Sept. 11.
SMITH HAULS IN WEEKLY AWARDS
Following a dominant performance at the Wyoming Invitational, Jaci Smith collected several major accolades on Sept. 4. In addition to being named the Air Force Cadet-Athlete of the Week and the Mountain West Women's Runner of the Week, the senior also captured the USTFCCCA Division I National Athlete of the Week honor.
THE NEXT COURSE
The Falcons return to competition on Sept. 28, when they travel to Madison, Wis., for the annual Nuttycombe Invitational.
