The senior made 18 total saves while recording a shutout this past weekend
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Air Force Academy women's soccer senior goalkeeper Jennifer Hiddink was named the Mountain West Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the period ending Sept. 16, the conference announced Monday, Sept. 17. This is the first weekly award for Hiddink and the Falcons this season, and the second in her career.
Hiddink was her usual steady self in net for the Falcons, helping her team to a pair of draws, 2-2 against Houston, Sept. 13, and a 0-0 tie against Gonzaga, Sept. 16. In all, Hiddink recorded nine saves in each match, totaling 18, while facing a total of 29 shots.
Of the two goals allowed, only one was allowed from an opponent, as the first goal against Houston was an own goal, which deflected off an Air Force defender. In all, the Wylie, Texas native finished the two-game stretch with a .900 save percentage, while only allowing 0.82 goals over the 220 total minutes.
The shutout against Gonzaga was her second complete-game shutout this season, and second in three matches. Dating back to her 75 minutes of shutout play against Creighton, Aug. 24, Hiddink has only allowed one true goal over her last four matches, totaling 405 minutes of play.
For the season, Hiddink has been one of the top keepers in both the conference and country. She is currently leading the MW in both saves (48) and saves per game (8.00), while ranking second in save percentage (.857) and third in shutouts (2). Her saves per game are eighth in the NCAA, while her total saves are 26th and save percentage is 42nd.
Hiddink is also continuing to creep up the all-time records at the Academy, as this past weekend she moved into third place in career saves (293), and also a tie for third in career shutouts (11). She is also fourth in goalkeeper minutes (4375), and goalkeeper wins (16), while also ranking second in goals against average (1.32).
