
Falcons hit road for pair of games

Air Force plays at Loyola Marymount and Cal Lutheran
THIS WEEK: Air Force (2-7, 1-0 WWPA) travels to southern California for a pair of games. The Falcons will face Loyola Marymount (2-5, 0-0 WWPA) Saturday, Sept. 22, at noon PT at the Burns Center in Los Angeles. The next day, the Falcons play a non-conference game against Cal Lutheran (3-3), Sunday, Sept. 23, at noon PT in Thousand Oaks, Calif.
SERIES RECORDS: Air Force and Loyola will meet for the second time this season and the 61st time in the history of the series. LMU leads the series, 32-28. Earlier this season, LMU defeated AF, 12-5, at the Triton Tournament. Last season, Air Force won two of three against the Lions. After an early season loss (16-12), the Falcons beat the Lions (9-7) in Los Angeles and then 12-8 at the Academy. Air Force and Cal Lutheran will meet for the 10th time and Air Force has won the previous nine meetings. Last season, AF defeated CLU, 15-8, in Thousand Oaks.
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS: LMU is 2-5 overall with wins over Redlands and Air Force. Last week, at the WWPA/GCC Challenge Cup, the Lions fell to No. 8 Pepperdine (13-11 OT), No. 10 Cal Irvine (10-8) and No. 2 UCLA (14-8). Cal Lutheran is 3-3 overall this season. The Kingsmen have won three of their last four with wins over Penn State-Behrend, Connecticut College and Iona.
LAST WEEK: Justin Harrison scored five goals and Luke Andres scored four to lead Air Force to a 19-11 win over Concordia in a WWPA game, Sept. 15, at the Cadet Natatorium. Air Force scored the first four goals of the game as Ian Shepherd, Harrison, Andres and Reagan Pittman all scored in the first four minutes. Harrison and Andres each scored their second of the game for a 6-2 lead at the end of the first.
Andres (twice) and Dorris scored in the second quarter for a 9-3 AF lead at the half. CUI's Ashley Barton scored five seconds into the third quarter, as the teams traded goals early in the second half. Sam Fuller, Campbell Harris and Harrison all scored late in the third for a 14-6 lead entering the fourth quarter. Each team scored five goals in the fourth quarter. Harrison scored his fifth of the game in the fourth. Freshman Gavin Jones scored two goals while freshman Henry Yavitt and sophomore Jack Alexander also found the back of the net. Air Force sophomore James Burke started in goal and made seven saves in the first three quarters. Freshman Anthony Tolbert made his fifth appearance of the season and made three saves in the fourth.
