
Falcons travel to Tucker Invitational in Albuquerque

The 17-team tournament begins on Friday, Sept. 28
THIS WEEK: The Air Force men's golf team will travel to Albuquerque, N.M., for the annual Tucker Invitational, Friday-Saturday, Sept. 28-29, at the Championship Course at the University of New Mexico. The teams will play 36 holes on Friday starting at 7:30 a.m., while Sunday's final 18 holes will begin at 8 a.m. The par 72 course will cover 7,555 yards. ABOUT THE FIELD: Seventeen teams are in this year's field: Air Force, Arkansas, BYU, Coastal Carolina, Colorado, Colorado State, Denver, Loyola Marymount, Nebraska, New Mexico, New Mexico State, UT-Arlington, Pepperdine, San Diego State, UT-El Paso, UNLV, Wyoming.
RECENTLY: The Air Force golf team placed 14th at the 13th annual Fighting Illini Invitational at the Olympia Fields Country Club, Sunday, Sept. 16, in Olympia Fields, Ill. One of the premier college tournaments in the nation, the 14-team field featured 10 teams ranked in the top 25, including three of the top four, and two others that were receiving votes. Senior Tate Tatom fired a final round 75 and ended the three-day tournament with a 229. Junior Joseph Crisostomo was the top Falcon for the tournament, shooting 73-74-77 for a 54-hole score of 224. Josh Wu finished the tournament at 235, while Andy Germann came in at 236 and Turner Howe was at 243. Top-ranked Oklahoma State won the tournament at 829 (-11). Southern California, ranked 20th in the nation, was second (847, +7). Air Force finished in 14th place at 922.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Among players who have played in all six rounds, junior Joseph Crisostomo leads the team with a 72.67 stroke average. Crisostomo leads the team with two rounds at par or better, including a career-best 67 in the final round of the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational. He was also the top Falcon at Olympia Fields. Senior Anson Kuznik is second on the team with a 74.67 while Tate Tatom is third at 75.00. In addition to Crisostomo's 67, to other Falcons have shot in the 60's. Andy Germann shot a 67 in the second round of the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational while Josh Wu shot 69 in the first round of the same tournament.
NATIONAL RANKINGS (as of Sept. 22nd): Only six schools in the nation have played against more teams ranked in the top 25 in the nation than the Falcons. Air Force has faced nine schools in the top 25. Only Cal (16), South Carolina (16), Alabama (16), Purdue (13), Oklahoma State (12), Florida State (11). Of 253 golf schools, Air Force is ranked No. 126, the highest of all the service academies. The Mountain West is again strong this season with five teams ranked in the top 60 in the nation.
