Wrestling Hits Road for Pair of Top 15 Conference Duals

THIS WEEK: The Air Force Academy wrestling team hits the road for its first two out of state duals of the season, and they come in the form of two top 15 conference opponents as the Falcons will take on No. 12 Wyoming, Friday, Jan. 18, followed by No. 15 Northern Iowa, Sunday, Jan. 20. Start time against the Cowboys is set for 7 p.m. MT, while action against the Panthers in historic West Gym will begin at 1 p.m. MT.

LAST TIME OUT: The Falcons went a perfect 3-0 at the 29th Annual Borah Duals Saturday afternoon, Jan. 12, at Mountaineer Field House on the campus of Western Colorado University. The Falcons knocked off the host Mountaineers, 46-6 and 29-9, while also defeating Simon Fraser University, 39-9.
Air Force was dominate from start to finish, as they won 21 of 25 matches contested on the day. 15 of the 21 wins were via bonus points as well
LAST SEASON VS THE POKES: Air Force was defeated by No. 14 Wyoming, 37-3, in dual action last season, Feb. 16, inside Clune Arena. Heavyweight Matt Wagner notched AF's lone win, taking his match by 3-1 decision.
ALL-TIME AGAINST WYOMING: Friday will mark the 54th meeting between the two long term rivals in the series that dates all the way back to 1958. The Cowboys lead the all-time tally, 41-12, including winning the last 10 meetings. Air Force's last dual win over Wyoming came in 2008, a 21-12 triumph in the season finale.
LAST TIME VS UNI: The Falcons and Panthers last met on Jan. 13, 2013, as non-conference opponents inside Clune Arena. AF was victorious, 19-18, with the difference coming on an unsportsmanlike penalty on the UNI bench, resulting in a one point deduction. The bouts were split, 5-5, with Air Force notching two bonus point wins.
ALL-TIME AGAINST THE PANTHERS: Sunday will mark the first time the two schools will meet as Big 12 rivals, but it will be the eighth all-time match-up between the two old Western Wrestling Conference foes. UNI leads the all-time tally, 5-2, including winning its five in a row from 2005-2012. Air Force won the first ever meeting between the two back in 2002, as well as the last meeting in 2013.
NEXT UP: The Falcons will be back on the mats for the All Academy Championships Saturday, Jan. 26, hosted by Norwich University in Northfield, Vt. The Falcons will battle the seven other service academy wrestling teams for military superiority throughout the day in tournament action.
