The Falcons' No. 20 placement matches the highest weekly ranking in program history.
NEW ORLEANS – Following its impressive performance at last week's Bill Dellinger Invitational, the Air Force women's cross country vaulted into the top 20 of the NCAA Division I Cross Country Coaches' Poll, which was released this morning (Oct. 1) by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. The Falcons, who had been receiving votes in the previous poll, returned to the national rankings at No. 20 – a placement that equals their highest national ranking in Academy history (Week 7, 2016).
With four of its five scoring runners finishing within the top 25, Air Force placed third at last weekend's meet in Oregon and easily distanced itself from one top-10 team, two other nationally-ranked squads and a pair of teams that were also receiving votes. In addition to the top-20 national ranking, the women also earned a No. 3 placement in the Mountain Region this week – a ranking that matches their best regional mark ever (Week 1, 2019).
On the men's side, Air Force is receiving votes in this week's poll after finishing ninth at the Bill Dellinger Invitational. With 11 points, the Falcons are just 12 points out of the top 30 and have received a mention in the national conversation during each of the last 20 weeks, dating back to the start of the 2017 season.
