Falcons Complete Day One At ITA Mountain Regional

Air Force men's tennis completed day one action Wednesday at the 2019 ITA Mountain Regional Championships, hosted by the University of Denver.

Leading the way were senior Mack Galvin and junior Paul Hendrix, who both advanced to the singles round 32. Galvin earned his way to the round of 32 by making his way out of the round of 128 with a win over Mathia Gavelin of Utah 6-4, 5-7, 6-2. Galvin defeated Ryland McDermott of Boise State in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2 in the round of 64. After a bye, Hendrix defeated Anton Ornberg of UNLV 7-6 (4), 6-2 to advance.

In the other singles matches, the Falcons dropped several three-set matches in a tough day. In the round of 128, freshman Justin Waldman fell to Oisin Shaffrey of Montana 6-2, 6-7 (5), 7-5 and sophomore Jordan Azuma dropped a 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 match to Gary Rendek of Idaho State. Freshman Denali Kitayama fell to Jake Kuhlman of North Dakota 6-3, 7-5 and freshman Jonathan Mascagni dropped a 6-1, 6-7 (4), 6-4 match to Milos Dabic of UNLV.

Freshman Morgan Ihrig fell in the round of 64 to Kris Van Wyk of Weber State 7-5, 0-6, 6-3. Junior Patrick Sklenka fell to Tom Ciszewski of UNLV 6-1, 1-6, 6-3.

In doubles play, the Falcons dropped a pair of matches in the round of 64. Galvin and Ihrig fell to Alexander Groves/Christopher Steele of Northern Arizona 8-7 (2). Mascagni and Waldman fell to Jack Barnett/Kobe Tran of BYU 8-3.

The Falcons return to action in day two of competition tomorrow.
