Air Force Rumbles To 56-26 Win At Hawai’i

For the second straight week, Air Force turned a close first-half into a blowout win, this time 56-26 over Hawai'i on Saturday in Mountain West action at Aloha Stadium in Honolulu, Hawai'i. The win lifted the Falcons to 5-2 on the season and 3-1 in MW play, moving the team one victory away from bowl eligibility.
Senior Mike Schmidt came in at quarterback when starter Donald Hammond III was injured on the first drive for the Falcons. The Falcon offense did not miss a beat, churning out 522 yards off offense, with 353 coming on the ground.
Schmidt threw for 147 yards on just five completions, including a 75-yard touchdown strike to Geraud Sanders for his first-career TD pass. Schmidt also led the Falcons with 120 rushing yards and three touchdowns. His 61-yard TD run helped put the game away in the fourth quarter.
Air Force held a 28-20 lead at halftime and went on to out-score Hawaii (4-3, 1-2 MW) 28-6 in the second half. Against Fresno State last week, the Falcons trailed 24-22 at the half before going on a 21-0 second half tear to win 43-24.
Timothy Jackson added 113 yards and a touchdown and Kadin Remsberg chipped in with 91 yards rushing and two touchdowns.
Sanders hauled in three receptions for a career-high 113 yards.
Quarterback Cole McDonald led Hawaii with 404 yards passing and three touchdowns. Receiver Jared Smart hauled in 11 receptions for 140 yards.
Defensively, Demonte Meeks led the Falcons with eight tackles. Mosese Fifita had a sack, forced fumble and recovery--all on one play. Milton Bugg III sealed the game with a 92-yard interception return for a touchdown. It was the fourth-longest pick-six in program history.
Air Force wore special uniforms as part of the Air Power Legacy Series, honoring the C-17 aircraft, a large military transport.
The Falcons return to action next Saturday, Oct. 26, hosting Utah State.
