Men's Swimming & Diving Concludes Day One of Intermountain Shootout

The Falcons won four events on the day
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Air Force Academy men's swimming and diving team wrapped up day one of action at the Intermountain Shootout Friday evening, Oct. 4, at the El Pomar Natatorium on the campus of Colorado Mesa. After one day of action, AF leads host CMU, 136-52, while trailing BYU, 98-89.
As a team, after 10 events contested, the Falcons won four of them while placing in the top three in all nine swimming events.
The day started with the 200 medley relay, in which the Falcons took first after the squad of seniors Cole McAnany and Zach Nelson, as well as sophomores Aaron Pang and Matthew Lattin, placed first with a 1:32.07. The next event of the day, the 200 meter, saw freshman Wen Zhang take gold with a 1:41.16, while sophomore Isaac Gwin took bronze with a 1:41.94.
Gwin took first in his signature event, the 100 back, after he breezed to the finish line with a 50.12. The final event win came in the 100 IM, which AF took all three top slots, with Nelson, Pang, and Gwin finishing 1-2-3.
On his own, sophomore Adam Grimm placed second in two events, as he touched in silver in the 400 IM (4:07.26) as well as the 1650 free (16:29.56). Finally, over on the diving board, freshman Brett Jenkins was the top finisher in the 1-meter, as the rookie had a final score of 249.50, good for a sixth place finish.
Action on day two of the Intermountain Shootout will continue tomorrow, Oct. 5, with a 10:30 a.m. MT start. There will be 11 more events contested throughout the day.
