Falcons Head to California for Final Road Trip of 2019

Air Force will face San Diego State (Nov. 14) and Fresno State (Nov. 16) this week.
The Air Force volleyball team wraps up the road portion of its 2019 schedule this weekend, as it heads to California for a pair of Mountain West contests. The Falcons, who enter the week tied with both opponents for sixth in the conference, will play at San Diego State on Thursday, Nov. 14, before traveling to Fresno State for an afternoon match on Saturday, Nov. 16.

SCOUTING THE AZTECS
San Diego State, which hosts Fresno State on Tuesday night, is currently 12-13 on the year and holds a 5-9 record in Mountain West action. The Aztecs were swept by Wyoming and 13th-ranked Colorado State during last weekend's home contests. As a team, San Diego State is listed among the league's top four in assists (third, 12.32), kills (fourth, 12.85) and hitting (fourth, .224) during conference matches. Individually, Tamia Reeves is ranked second in hitting against MW opponents (.417), while teammate Hanna Turnland is listed fourth in kills with a 3.55 per-set average.

Fresno State, which travels to San Diego State on Tuesday, enters the week with a 12-14 overall record and a 5-9 mark in conference play. The Bulldogs are coming off of a pair of home losses to 13th-ranked Colorado State (0-3) and Wyoming (1-3) last weekend. Reagan Leonard leads the Mountain West in digs with a 4.92 average, while Madelyn Halteman is ranked second in aces (0.57). Backed by Desiree Sukhov's 3.59 kills-per-set average (third), the Bulldogs are the only team in the conference to have three players listed among the top 10 for kills in MW matches.

The Falcons are 8-37 in their lifetime series with San Diego State – with six of those eight victories occurring during the last five years. Air Force, which has won its last five-straight against Fresno State, is 8-9 all-time against the Bulldogs – and 8-5 since Fresno State joined the Mountain West in 2012.

Against Mountain West opponents, three Falcons are ranked among the conference's top 10. Denise Ssozi is listed seventh in kills (3.31) and ninth in points (3.62), while Alex King is ranked fourth in digs (4.24) and Andi Ahlers is listed seventh in assists (9.08). As a team, the Falcons are ranked second in digs with a 14.48 average.

Air Force and San Jose State played to a 35-33 score during the third set of the Nov. 7 match at the Academy. The 33 points tallied by Air Force are the most since a 34-point outing in 2014 – a match that also featured the Spartans – and the third-highest point total in a single match since 25-point scoring began in 2008.
