Wrestling Falls to Wyoming in Dual Opener, 21-12

USAFA, Colo. – The Air Force Academy wrestling team captured wins at four weight classes in a 21-12 dual defeat to Big 12 rival Wyoming, Saturday, Nov. 16.

The dual started at 174 lbs. and the Cowboys came out firing, winning the first four, including three via major decision, to race out to a 15-0 lead.

Going back to the top, 125 lbs. saw a top-20 match-up between sophomore No. 16 Sidney Flores and No. 18 Cole Verner. In a hard fought match, Flores used two takedowns and a two point nearfall to secure the win and move to 6-1 on the season.

At 133 lbs., sophomore Jared Van Vleet rematched with No. 7 Montorie Bridges, who he fell to, 2-1, at the Cowboy Open. It was another barnburner, as Van Vleet thought he had a go-ahead takedown with about 15 seconds remaining, but it was ruled out of bounds, and Bridges held on, 3-2.

Air Force bounced back at 141 lbs. with another solid decision win, as junior No. 25 Lenny Petersen notched a reversal right at the end of the third period in a 3-3 match to take a 5-3 victory. The win moved him to 10-1 on the season.

Wyoming took 149 by a narrow decision, but AF won its third match of the night at 157 as sophomore Trey Brisker won his Big 12 dual debut with a 6-3 decision win. The Falcons capped off the meet with a 4-2 decision win for senior No. 30 Randy Meneweather, as he remained perfect on the season at 9-0.

Air Force now hits the road and heads to the east coast for a dual against Hofstra, Thursday, Nov. 21, followed by the Navy Classic, Saturday, Nov. 23. Action against the Pride begins at 5 p.m. MT, while the Navy Classic begins at 10 a.m. ET and runs all day.
