Falcons Drop Road Dual to Hofstra

HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Air Force Academy wrestling team fell in dual action at Hofstra, 24-12, Thursday evening, Nov. 21, at the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex. Air Force got four decision wins, but Hofstra's six wins, including two via pin, was the difference in the match.

AF started off strong with two wins to start the dual, which began at 174 lbs. In his first start of the season, senior Tyler Wiederholt edged out his opponent, 7-6. Then at 184 lbs., sophomore Jake Thompson earned his first dual win of the season with a solid 6-3 decision.

Hofstra got on the board at 197 with a decision win, and then at HWT, it looked as if AF was going to win, but Hofstra got a turn and pin with three seconds to go to the buzzer to get the shocking victory, and take the dual lead at 9-6. AF rebounded at 125 lbs., as No. 15 Sidney Flores moved to 7-1 on the season with a commanding 6-0 decision win to tie the match up going into intermission.

Out of the break, Hofstra secured another pin, this one in the second period, to leap back ahead, 15-9. At 141 lbs., senior Garrett O'Shea returned to the lineup, and looked like his normal self, winning by 9-5 decision to keep it close, 15-12.

The Pride then won the final three bouts, including 149 by one point, and 165 in sudden victory, to run away with the 12 point dual win.

Air Force now treks due south to Annapolis to take part in the Navy Classic. Action from the U.S. Naval Academy begins at 10 a.m. ET and will run throughout the day.
