Wrestling Heads East for Hofstra Dual & Navy Classic

The Falcons are facing the Pride for the sixth time in program history

THIS WEEK: The Air Force Academy wrestling team hits the road for its first away dual of the season at Hofstra, Thursday, Nov. 21. Action against the Pride begins at 5 p.m. MT. That is followed by the Navy Classic down in Annapolis, Saturday, Nov. 23. That tournament begins at 10 a.m. ET and runs all day.
FOLLOWING THE ACTION: The dual will have a live stream through Pride Productions, while live results will be on Trackwrestling. For the Navy Classic, there will not be video available, but live results will be on the FloArena through FloWrestling.
LAST WEEKEND VERSUS WYOMING: The Falcons captured wins at four weight classes in a 21-12 dual defeat to Big 12 rival Wyoming, Saturday, Nov. 16. AF earned decision wins from sophomore Sidney Flores at 125 lbs., junior Lenny Petersen at 141 lbs., sophomore Trey Brisker at 157 lbs., and senior Randy Meneweather at 165 lbs.
NATIONALLY RANKED FALCONS: Coming into the weekend, Air Force has four of its wrestlers gaining recognition in some national rankings. In the OpenMat poll, Sophomore Sidney Flores is #15 at 125 lbs. In the FloWrestling poll, junior Lenny Petersen is #21 at 141 lbs. and sophomore Kayne Hutchison is #22 at heavyweight. In the Trackwrestling poll, senior Randy Meneweather is #29 at 165 lbs.
HISTORY WITH THE PRIDE: Thursday marks the sixth all-time meeting with Hofstra all-time. The series dates back to 1971, and the Pride lead the all-time tally, 3-2. The two teams last met in January of 2018, a 21-12 dual win for AF in Hempstead.

LAST SEASON AT THE NAVY CLASSIC: The Falcons placed four wrestlers at the 2018 Navy Classic, led by Senior co-captain Anthony McLaughlin as the 197 pounder placed runner-up in his weight class bracket. Elsewhere at the Navy Classic, the trio of freshman Sidney Flores, senior John Twomey, and junior Garrett O'Shea all placed tied for fifth after the fifth place matches were not contested.
As a team at the Navy Classic, Air Force finished ninth out of 16 teams after totaling 59.5 points. The Falcons had 16 wrestlers who hit the mats, and they earned 29 wins total. 13 of the 16 wrestlers earned at least one win.
PINS ON PINS ON PINS: After three weeks of NCAA Division I wrestling action, Air Force has been one of the most dominant teams on the mats when it comes to pinning opponents. AF has 22 pins against D1 competition, which is tied for the second most of any other D1 team thus far
In addition, junior Cody Surratt has six total pins this season, which is tied for the fifth-most in the nation.
NEXT WEEK: The Falcons will have the rest of 2019 away from competition before returning to the mats for the prestigious Southern Scuffle, Jan 1-2 in Chattanooga, Tenn.
