
Women's Swimming & Diving Has Big Day Two at Phill Hansel Invite

The Falcons set seven new top ten program bests
HOUSTON, Texas – The Air Force Academy women's swimming and diving team picked up the action on day two of the Phill Hansel Invitational, Friday evening, Nov. 22, on the campus of the University of Houston. The Falcons competed in eight events, and had seven new top-ten all-time program times.
Starting with the 400 IM, senior Heidi Schellin led the way for AF with a 23rd place finish. Her prelim time of 4:26.16 was good for the fourth fastest time in program history. She previously had the eighth fastest.
In the 100 fly, senior Esther Min touched in at 25th overall, making a time of 55.26, improving on her already set sixth fastest time in program history. In the 200 free, freshman Sefilina Maile continued to make her mark to start her career, as she placed 20th, and her prelim time of 1:51.06 is now the eighth fastest in Academy history.
The final two individual swims for AF saw big times from three swimmers in each. Starting with the 100 breast, Schellin took 13th overall with a 1:03.32. Behind her, freshmen Kimmy Woolfenden took 15th with a 1:03.43, while classmate Mason Brown placed 20th with a 1:03.57. Woolfenden's time was the sixth fastest while Brown is the seventh quickest in program history.
Meanwhile, in the 100 back, junior Kylie Stronko, the school record holder in the event, placed fifth in a crowded field with a 55.36. Behind her, Maile took 10th with a 56.05, which ties her for the fifth best time in program history. Junior Lexie DuChene had a prelim time of 56.24 in the event, improving on her now eighth fastest time in Academy history.
On the diving board, senior Kayla Wofford was AF's top finisher, taking seventh, while sophomore Krystal Irwin placed right behind in eighth. Finally, in the two relays, Air Force had a season best time in the 200 medley, while they placed 10th in the 800 free in their first time swimming the event this season.
As a team, AF has compiled 365 points to jump ahead to ninth place overall, ahead of Northern Colorado.
The Phill Hansel Invite will conclude tomorrow, Saturday, Nov. 23 with seven more events. Prelims will begin at 9 a.m. MT, with finals at 2 p.m. MT.
