Air Force Drops Regular Season Finale at Utah Valley, 4-1

OREM, Utah - Air Force fell to Utah Valley, 4-1, in the regular-season finale, Saturday afternoon at Clyde Field in Orem, Utah. The Falcons finalize the regular season slate at 7-10 overall with a 6-5 record in the Western Athletic Conference. Utah Valley improves to 11-6-1 overall with an 8-3 mark in the league. Both teams are headed to the WAC Tournament hosted at the Academy, November 13-17.

Sophomore standout Tristan Trager led the Falcons with a goal on four shots taken during the match, two of which were taken on goal. At the time of the loss, Trager sits atop all of the league's goal scorers with 13 to his tally. The Falcons put up 10 total shots, seven were in the second half.

The team's played a defensive first half, firing off only three shots apiece in the first 45 minutes of action. Air Force was the first to light the scoreboard in the 56^th minute as sophomores Michael Neacsu and Giuliano Daniel combined on an assist to Trager for the first strike.

Utah Valley's Zach Maas recorded the equalizer in the 69^th minute, starting the Wolverines on a four-goal run. Blake Firschknecht, who finished the regular-season one goal shy of Trager's mark, notched the following two goals in the 78^th and 79^th minutes to give the Wolverines an insurance goal lead.

The game became more physical as Air Force's race with the clock became more frantic. A foul in Utah Valley's box in the 86^th minute gave the Wolverines a penalty kick opportunity which Aaron Caprio capitalized on to seal the deal at 4-1 at the expiration of the game clock. Utah Valley outshot the Falcons, 12-7, in the second half.

Sophomore keeper Kainoa Likewise recorded four saves on the day, finalizing his first complete season in the Falcons' cage with a winning mark in league action.

With five spots clinched in the WAC Tournament, Air Force has elected to play the 3 p.m. game on Wednesday (Nov. 13), regardless of seed. One week after clinching a spot, Seattle U used a win at UIW to clinch the regular season title and top seed. Utah Valley, Air Force, CSU Bakersfield and San José State will await the results of the weekend to determine the remaining two selections and seeds. Game one of the WAC Tournament is slated for noon on Nov. 13.
