Wrestling Places Seven at the Mountaineer Invitational

AF got weight class wins from Lenny Petersen and Randy Meneweather
BOONE, N.C. – The Air Force Academy wrestling team placed seven wrestlers in the top three of their weight class in a successful day at the Mountaineer Invitational Saturday evening, Nov. 9, in Boone N.C. Junior Lenny Petersen and senior Randy Meneweather both placed first in their respective weight classes.
Petersen went 4-0 at 141 lbs. while Meneweather was a perfect 3-0 at 165 lbs. Petersen moves to 9-1 on the season, while Meneweather is a perfect 8-0 on the season. Petersen had two wins via major decision and a pin while Meneweather had a pin, major decision, and a decision.
Elsewhere, sophomore Sidney Flores and junior Cody Surratt took second at 125 and 174 lbs., respectively, while senior Tyler Wiederholt, sophomore Kayne Hutchison, and sophomore Jake Thompson placed third at their weight classes.
The Falcons also battled some ranked opponents along the way, as Flores fell to the No. 9 ranked wrestler in the country in the finals, while Petersen defeated the No. 22 ranked wrestler in Dresden Simon of CMU and Hutchison had a win over No. 24 ranked Brandon Ngati of WVU in the third place match.
Air Force now will head into dual action next weekend, Nov. 16, when they face Big 12 Conference rival Wyoming. Action from Clune Arena begins at 7 p.m. MT.
