Falcons open spring season in Arizona

Air Force set to compete in Loyola Intercollegiate, Feb. 23-25
THIS WEEK: The Air Force men's golf team will travel to Goodyear, Ariz., for the annual Loyola Intercollegiate, Saturday-Monday, Feb. 23-25, at the Palm Valley Golf Course. The tournament is hosted by Loyola University Maryland. Live scoring will be available at GolfStat.com.
ABOUT THE FIELD: The 17-team tournament field will feature Air Force, Alabama Birmingham, Army West Point, Connecticut, DePaul, Elon, Gonzaga, Hartford, Loyola, Missouri State, Murray State, Seton Hall, SIU-Edwardsville, South Dakota, Towson, UT-Martin and Xavier.
ABOUT THE TOURNAMENT: The three-day, 54-hole event will be played on the Palms Course beginning (par 72, 7,015 yards) with one round on Saturday, one round on Sunday and the final round on Monday. Play will begin Saturday with a 8:45 a.m. MST (10:45 a.m. ET) shotgun start, continuing both Sunday and Monday at the same time, followed by an award presentation after the conclusion of play. Formerly known as the Snowman Gateway, this is the sixth-consecutive year Loyola has hosted the event.
LAST SEASON AT THE TOURNEY: Last season at the Loyola Intercollegiate, Air Force placed eighth with a season-best 843 (-21) in the 19-team tournament. The Falcons shot a 278 in both the first and second rounds, the best 18-hole score of the season. Air Force placed ahead of Army West Point. Josh Wu was the top Falcon, placing 15th overall with a three-round total of 208 (-8). Wu was under par in each of the three rounds, shooting 68-69-71. Tate Tatom and Austin Kuznik tied for 24th overall at 211 (-5). Tatom was under par in every round as well, shooting 69-71-71. Andy Germann tied for 34h at 213 (-3).
INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Freshman Luke Trujillo played 15 of the 18 rounds in the fall and leads the team with a 74.40 stroke average. Senior Bryant Falconello is second with a 74.50 while junior Josh Wu is third at 75.17. Senior Andy Germann and junior Joseph Crisostomo have the best individual score with a 67 in the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational. Falconello and Trujillo have the best rounds away from home, shooting a 71 at the Bill Cullum Invitational.
