Air Force placed third in Atlantic Hockey
Final Record: Air Force closed out the 2018-19 season with a 16-15-5 overall record and a 14-10-4 mark in Atlantic Hockey. Air Force placed third in the league and hosted sixth-seeded Niagara in a best-of-three quarterfinal series, March 15-16, at Cadet Ice Arena. Niagara swept the series to advance to the AHC Final Four.
The Coach: Head coach Frank Serratore is in his 22nd season at Air Force with a record of 395-350-86 (831 games). The 2016 AHC Coach of the Year, he is the winningest coach in the history of Air Force hockey, having led Air Force to two regular-season titles, seven AHC tournament championships and seven NCAA Tournaments in the last 13 years. In his 26th season as a collegiate head coach, he has an overall record of 444-442-95 (981 games).
The Playoffs: AIC won the regular-season title with 37 points and also won the tournament title to advance to its first ever NCAA Tournament. Air Force was the third seed in the AHC Playoffs and fell in two games (3-2 ot, 5-4) to sixth-seeded Niagara, March 15-16, at Cadet Ice Arena.
Penalty Kill Leads the Nation: Air Force led the nation in penalty kill at 88.9 percent, killing 136 of 153 opponent power plays. Bowling Green finished second in the nation at 88.5. Air Force killed 36 straight opponent power plays from Nov. 9 until Dec. 30. Air Force killed 25 of the final 27. The 88.9 percentage is the second best in school history. Air Force led the nation in 2016-17 with a school record 89.7.
On the Dot: Air Force led Atlantic Hockey and ranked fourth in the nation in faceoff winning percentage at 54.8. Three Falcons ranked in the top 20 in the nation (among players who won more than 270 draws). Kyle Haak won 387 draws and his winning percentage of .588 ranked eighth in the nation. Brady Tomlak won 316 draws and ranked 10th at .583. Evan Feno won 257 draws and was 20th at .563.
The Senior Class: The senior class of Dan Bailey, Billy Christopoulos, Evan Feno, Evan Giesler, Kyle Haak, Matt Koch and Matt Serratore led the Falcons to two AHC Championships, two NCAA wins and trips to the NCAA Elite Eight and won 86 games, tying the school record set by the Class of 2018.
