Rising senior Matt Pulver was one of six Falcons to play in all 36 games this past season
U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Air Force rising senior Matt Pulver has been selected as team captain of the 2019-20 Falcon hockey team. Pulver was selected by a vote of all returning players.
"I'm pleased our players selected Matt Pulver to represent them as their captain," head coach Frank Serratore said. "Matt is a quality person who leads by example both on and off the ice. He inspired his teammates by overcoming major shoulder surgeries in both his freshman and sophomore seasons en route to being selected as the team's most improved player this past year as a junior. Matt's toughness, blue collar work ethic, and unrelenting will to succeed are traits our present group must possess in order to be successful as a team."
Pulver will serve as the team's only captain throughout the remainder of the spring and summer, and he will wear a letter next season. The team will vote on any other captains closer to the start of the season. The 2019-20 season will begin with an exhibition game against Trinity Western (Langley, British Columbia), Sunday, Oct. 6, at Cadet Ice Arena. The entire schedule will be released later in the summer.
"It's an absolute honor and I'm humbled knowing the shoes I have to fill," Pulver said. "It's a task I won't take lightly. We have a winning culture, so we are going to do everything in our power to get back to those winning ways."
Pulver was a co-recipient of the team's most improved player award for the 2018-19 season. He played more games this past season than in his previous two seasons combined. After recovering from shoulder surgeries his first two years, he was one of six Falcons to play in all 36 games this past season. He had five goals and four assists on the year and netted the game-winner against Bentley on Nov. 10.
