Falcons Fall to UNLV in Series Finale

Sophomore Cole Blatchford hit his first home run of the season
USAFA, Colo. – The Air Force Academy baseball team dropped the series finale to UNLV, 7-1, Sunday morning, April 7, at Falcon Field. The game's original start time of noon was bumped up to 9:30 a.m. due to travel restrictions for UNLV.
It wasn't an unproductive day for the Falcon offense, as they totaled eight hits in the game. Sophomore Cole Blatchford had the biggest knock with a solo home run, the first of his season and second of his career. Junior Ashton Easley had a two-hit game, both doubles, while freshman Alexander Pup also had two hits with a pair of singles.
On the hill, sophomore Luke Chilcutt was solid in relief, going four strong innings, allowing just one unearned run on three hits while striking out three. The final two outs were recorded by freshman Nathan Price on just nine pitches.
The first three innings went by in a flash, as all nine batters on each side were retired in order, sending it to the fourth scoreless. The Rebels opened the scoring in the fourth, striking for three runs on three hits, to take an early 3-0 lead. They added three more in the fifth and another in the seventh, which was unearned, to hold the steady 7-0 advantage with two to play.
Air Force got on the board with the Blatchford solo home run in the bottom of the eighth, a no doubter to left field, making it 7-1. Despite some more base traffic in the eighth and ninth, AF was unable to scrape across any more runs.
The Falcons will be back in action tomorrow afternoon, April 8, for a non-conference contest against Utah Valley. First pitch against the Wolverines from Falcon Field is set for 3 p.m. MT.
