Sedacy Walden collected three medals, taking first in the 400 and running on two winning relays.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Backed by six Mountain West titles and a 1-2-3 sweep in the men's pole vault, the Mountain West announced this morning (May 14) that the Air Force track and field team claimed 13 total all-conference awards at last week's MW Outdoor Championships. Overall, the Falcons saw 10 men, one woman and two relays medal at the conference meet.
A Mountain West title by sophomore Greg Skage paced the men to a sweep of the pole vault medals – marking the fourth time in seven years that Air Force has gone 1-2-3 in that event at the outdoor championship meet. Senior Sam Hinegardner and sophomore Mitch Lipe completed the sweep, as the pair finished second and third, respectively.
Senior Sedacy Walden led the Falcons with three medals at the championship meet, as he captured his second outdoor 400-meter title in three years and ran on Air Force's two winning relay teams. Junior Michael Rhoads, who won the 800-meter run and captured the squad's first all-conference award in that event since 2013, and sophomore Zachary Dicken, who finished third in the 400-meter dash to mark the third-straight year Air Force has claimed two of the top-three spots in that race, also collected multiple medals over the weekend after running on the 4x400-meter relay that successfully defended its MW title.
Senior Micah Fontaine earned all-conference honors after winning the 110-meter hurdles – marking the fifth-straight year that Air Force has accounted for a top-three finish in that event, while classmates Jacob Bilvado and Trevor Siniscalchi used their respective runner-up finishes in the 5000-meter run and 3000-meter steeplechase to claim all-MW accolades. Junior Parker Spearman rounded out the individual medalist for the men's team, as he finished second in the javelin throw.
Four men also accounted for all-conference accolades by running on the two winning relay teams. Sophomore Luke Zuluaga joined Walden, Dicken and Rhoads on the 4x400-meter relay that placed first, while senior Miguel Molas, junior Terrell Bradford and senior Reece Pontious ran with Walden on the relay that claimed the Falcons' fourth 4x100-meter title in five seasons.
Senior Jaci Smith represented the women's team on the all-conference list, as she earned her fifth Mountain West medal in track and field after placing third in the 5000-meter run.
