
Preston Roche Earns Academic All-District Honors

The senior is the 20th different Falcon to earn CoSIDA Academic All-District honors.
USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – Air Force senior Preston Roche was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-District VII Men's Track/Field and Cross Country Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced today (May 28). With first-team distinction at the district level, Roche will be placed on the Academic All-America ballot.
Maintaining a 3.95 GPA in chemistry, Roche became a significant member of the Falcons' 800-meter roster in 2019 – earning top-eight finishes at the both the indoor and outdoor Mountain West Championship meets (sixth indoors, eighth outdoors) and running that distance on a pair of relays. The senior, who collected three individual first-place finishes on the year, posted an outdoor-best time of 1:50.49 (adjusted for altitude) at the Northern Colorado Invitational and an indoor-best mark of 1:51.93a during the Mountain West finals. He ran on the distance medley relay that accounted for the ninth-fastest time in Academy history (9:45.92a) during a third-place performance at the MW Indoor Championships, while running the second leg of the 4x800-meter relay that posted the third-fastest time in program history (7:30.15) at the Drake Relays. Roche, who will be attending medical school at North Carolina in the fall, is a three-time academic all-conference selection and a three-time Mountain West Scholar-Athlete.
To be nominated for CoSIDA Academic All-District honors, a student-athlete must have completed at least one full academic year at their institution, be a significant contributor and carry a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.30 or higher. The academic awards for District VII are voted on by CoSIDA members from Division I program in Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas and Wyoming.
Roche is the 20th different Falcon to earn academic all-district honors from CoSIDA (26 total selections), as the Falcons' track and field program has accounted for at least one academic all-district award during 13 of the last 14 years.
