Jaci Smith Nabs Fourth Career All-America Award

Smith earned Second-Team All-America honors after finishing 13th in the 5000-meter run.
AUSTIN, Texas – Air Force senior Jaci Smith closed out the 2019 season with the fourth All-America award of her career this evening (June 8), as she earned Second-Team honors following a 13th-place finish in the 5000-meter run at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Austin, Texas.
With conditions hovering over 100 degrees on the track at Mike A. Myers Stadium, Smith jumped to the front of the 24-runner field at the gun and led the next seven laps, maintaining that position as a pack of eight separated themselves from the rest of the field. Overall positions changed during the final five laps and Smith crossed the finish line in a time of 16:22.42 to place 13th overall.
The senior capped her stellar track and field career with four All-America awards – the most ever by an Air Force female runner at the Division I level (two indoor, two outdoor) and a total that is tied for the most in Academy DI history (N Frawley, S Spires, J Trimble, J Tyner). With one additional citation in cross country, Smith finished her Academy career as a five-time All-American – the most by any athlete in the combined program's Division I history.
