Track & Field Places 36 on Academic All-Conference List

The men's squad led all Academy programs with 22 total academic all-MW selections.
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Thirty-six members of the Air Force track and field team were named to the Mountain West Academic All-Conference Team for the spring semester, the conference office announced on Monday, July 17. Highlighted by a school-leading 22 selections from the men's team, the track and field program accounted for nearly half of the Academy's 77 total academic all-conference selections.
Highlighting the track and field team's list of representatives were four-time academic all-conference honorees and recent Academy graduates Andrea Abel (3.75, engineering), Gordon Kowalkowski (3.32, aeronautical engineering) and Jaci Smith (3.36, astronautical engineering). Noah Riley (3.73, political science), Preston Roche (3.92, biochemistry) and Nathan Thomas (3.35, civil engineering) earned their third academic all-MW distinction, while Shanna Burns (3.17, civil engineering), Sam Hinegardner (3.22, systems engineering) and Reece Pontious (3.10, computer science) all claimed their second.
Juniors Chris Doerr (3.36, management), Logan Grizzle (3.33, management), Sierra Rodriguez (3.26, management) and Swathi Samuel (3.86, operations research) received academic all-MW honors for the third-straight year, while classmate Lindsey Blanks (3.89, operations research) claimed her second academic award and Bailey Ishler and Connor Stevens each earned their first.
Six Falcons – Hunter Boyer (3.75, aeronautical engineering), Addison Brown (3.31, computer science), Colin Dwyer (3.43, geospatial science), Scott Johnson (3.61, operations research), Mitch Lipe (3.61, aeronautical engineering) and Kathleen Medill (3.68, electrical engineering) – claimed their second-straight academic all-MW award, while classmates Maria Mettler (3.06, behavioral science) and Greg Skage (3.09, management) earned their first distinction.
A total of 12 freshmen claimed academic all-conference honors during their initial collegiate campaign, including Garrett Blenkush (3.74), Ethan Gardner (3.43, mechanical engineering), Parker Garrison (3.31, management), Sean Geither (Academy-high 3.95), Jenna Kill (3.77), Zach Legg (3.46, electrical engineering), Kendra Middleton (3.55, aeronautical engineering), Brid O'Connell (3.26, civil engineering), Grace Proesch (3.21, civil engineering), Michelle Roca (3.87, legal studies), Matthew Walters (3.72, management) and Erika Willis (3.92, biology).
More than 1000 student-athletes were named to the Mountain West's academic all-conference team for the spring semester, which features the sports of baseball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's golf, softball, women's swimming and diving, men's and women's tennis and men's and women's indoor and outdoor track and field. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution while maintaining a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.00 or better and be a starter or significant contributor on their athletic team.
