As Air Force WCAP athletes, the former Falcons collected four top-10 finishes at the national meet.
DES MOINES, Iowa – Highlighted by a fourth-place finish from former Falcon Jamiel Trimble, several Air Force track and field alumni wrapped up a strong weekend of competition at the Toyota USA Outdoor Championships, which were held July 25-28 in Des Moines, Iowa. As members of the Air Force World Class Athlete Program (WCAP), the contingent of former Falcons accounted for four top-10 finishes.
Trimble, a 2018 Academy graduate, capped his return from injury with a fourth-place performance in the Xfinity 200-meter dash. Clocking a time of 20.46 in the final, Trimble finished just 0.01-seconds out of spot on the World team. After clocking a time of 20.73 to finish third in his heat – and ninth overall – in the opening round on Saturday, Trimble posted a season-best time of 20.41 to take third in his semifinal heat Sunday afternoon and earn an automatic bid into that night's final.
Hannah Everson (Class of 2016) clocked a time of 32:54.47 to finish seventh in the 10,000-meter run, while pole vaulter Kyle Pater (Class of 2017) tied for the same placement in the pole vault after clearing 17'11". Shelley Spires (Class of 2018) rounded out the list of top-10 finishers after placing eighth in the high jump with a clearance of 6'0".
In addition, Jaci Smith – a 2019 graduate and the most recent WCAP addition – finished 11th in the 10,000-meter run (33:23.86) and 22nd in the 5000-meter run (16:35.37), while Annette (Eichenberger) Melcher – a member of the Class of 2014 – finished 30th in the 800-meter run after clocking in at 2:12.05.
