Falcons Drop a Pair of Friday Contests

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Air Force volleyball team dropped a pair of contests on Friday, Aug. 30, as it opened the 2019 season against Navy and UConn at the Service Academy Challenge in Washington, D.C. The Falcons lost a 3-0 contest to the Midshipmen in the morning, before suffering a 3-1 defeat to the Huskies in the nightcap.
Air Force and Navy played three-straight 21-25 sets, with sophomore Bailey Keith leading all players with 14 kills on .481 hitting (14-1-27). The second-year player also posted a team-high 10 digs and four blocks (one solo, three assisted). Junior Cambria Galloway added seven kills on .462 hitting (7-1-13), while tallying three blocks (one solo, two assisted) and a pair of service aces. Classmate Andi Ahlers, who matched Galloway with two aces, led all players with 27 assists.
Keith also led the Falcons during the second match, tallying nine kills during Air Force's 25-18, 20-25, 11-25, 15-25 loss to UConn. In addition to posting 26 assists, Ahlers (two) and classmate Kelly Motes (three) combined for five of the team's nine service aces. Fellow junior Alex King registered 13 digs, while classmate Mackenzie Robertson and senior Denise Ssozi each registered a pair of blocks.
The Falcons close out the opening tournament tomorrow (Aug. 31), when they face Gonzaga at 12:30 p.m.
