Harris and Tanis each scored twice against the Spartans
U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – San Jose State, ranked 20th in the nation, held off a late Air Force rally for a 10-8 win over the Falcons in the final game of the SoCal Water Polo Invitational, Sunday, Sept. 29, in Los Angeles, Calif.
Air Force (7-8 overall this season), drew first blood as Campbell Harris scored 13 seconds into the game. The Spartans scored the next three before Reagan Pittman scored at 4:31. SJSU had a 4-2 lead at the end of the first ,but Harris' second of the game came 60- seconds into the second quarter and cut the deficit to 4-3. Neil Reynolds scored midway through the second quarter, but the Falcons trailed, 6-4 at the half.
Corey Tanis scored the only Falcon goal of the third quarter as the Spartans held an 8-5 lead to start the fourth. SJSU took a 10-5 lead, before the Falcons rallied for three late goals in the final three minutes. Tanis scored with 2:29 left, Sam Fuller scored with 1:55 remaining and Gavin Jones' goal with 1:24 left made up the final margin.
Harris and Tanis each scored twice for the Falcons. Anthony Tolbert made six saves and Mike Miller won all four sprints.
Air Force travels to the Troyer Tournament, Oct. 4-5, in Pomona, Calif.
