The Falcons will host six meets at the Academy during the upcoming season.
USAF ACADEMY, Colo. – Backed by six home meet and road trips to several of the nation's premier events, the Air Force track and field team released its schedule for the upcoming 2019-20 season this afternoon. The Falcons will host five indoor meets at the Cadet Field House and one outdoor competition at the Cadet Outdoor Track and Field Complex.
Air Force will open the season in early December, when it hosts the annual Holiday Open on Dec. 6. The Falcons continue their indoor home schedule during the new year, with the Air Force Combined Events Meet (Jan. 16-17), the Air Force Invitational (Jan. 17-18), the Air Force Team Challenge (Feb. 7) and the Air Force Collegiate Open (Feb. 21). During the outdoor season, the Falcons will host their annual Twilight Open to conclude the regular season on May 1.
Head coach Ralph Lindeman is excited about caliber of opponents that will be traveling to the Cadet Field House during the indoor season. "BYU will again field a complete team at the Air Force Invitational in mid-January, while this year's Team Challenge will feature the Big West champions from Long Beach State, the WAC champions from Utah Valley and AAC power Wichita State."
The Falcons will travel to Boulder for the Potts Indoor Invitational (Jan. 10-11) and the Colorado Invitational (Jan. 31-Feb. 1) during the indoor season, while the squad will also compete at the Texas Tech Shootout in Lubbock on Jan. 24 and split for the Don Kirby Classic (Albuquerque, N.M.) and Iowa State Classic (Ames, Iowa) over the Feb. 13-15 weekend.
The entire postseason of the 2020 indoor campaign will run through Albuquerque, as the Mountain West Indoor Championships will be held at the ABQ Convention Center on Feb. 27-29 and the NCAA Indoor Championships will be held there on March 13-14.
Once again, the Falcons' outdoor schedule will feature trips numerous to nationally-ranked competitions, including San Diego State's Aztec Invitational and the Stanford Invitational over the Mar. 27-28 weekend. Air Force will also compete at the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays, which returns to a newly-renovated Hilmer Lodge Stadium, on April 16-18 –part of a busy week of action in southern California that includes top-tier competition at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate (April 16), Bryan Clay Invitational (April 17) and Beach Invitational (April 17-18).
In addition to local meets at Colorado (Jerry Quiller Classic on Mar. 20-21, CU Invitational on Apr. 10-11) and Colorado State (Doug Max Invitational on Apr. 23-25), Air Force will also travel to Tempe, Ariz., for the Sun Angel Classic on Apr 3-4, San Francisco for the Mike Fanelli Track Classic on Mar 27-28, and Des Moines, Iowa, for the 111th-annual Drake Relays.
"The Drake Relays have become an institution on our outdoor schedule," Lindeman commented. "We'll be looking to repeat some of our recent success, where we've won a major relay four years in a row and fared really well in the Relays' Hy-Vee Cup competition."
The Mountain West Outdoor Track and Field Championships will be held in Clovis, Calif., for the third-straight year, as it kicks off the outdoor postseason on May 13-16. The NCAA Outdoor Championships begin for the Falcons with the West Preliminary in Lawrence, Kan., on May 28-30, and conclude with the championship round in Austin, Texas, on June 10-13.
