Air Force Competes at West Invitational

Air Force fencing competed at the 2020 Western Invitational Sunday, Jan. 12, at RIMAC Arena on the campus of UC San Diego in La Jolla, Calif. The men's posted a 2-2 head-to-head record, while the women's teams went 2-3.
The men's team defeated Florida 24-3 and Incarnate Word 25-2 and fell to UCSD 16-11 and Stanford 19-8. The women's team defeated Florida 20-7 and Incarnate Word 17-9 and fell to UCSD 18-9, Northwestern 16-11 and Stanford 20-7.
On the men's side, freshman Jose McGoff-Medero and sophomore Nestor Levin led the way in the men's foil group. McGoff-Medero went 8-2 in individual bouts and Levin followed with a 7-2 record.
The Falcons were also strong in the epee group. Freshman Matthew Han led the way with an 8-3 mark. Juniors Stephen Kimatian and Calvin Smith both went 7-4.
In men's saber, junior Matt Goode posted a 6-4 record and sophomore Will Nikolai went 6-5.
On the women's side, the epee group led the way. Sophomore Nicole Agob went 11-3 and senior Helen Landwehr went 10-4. Freshman Sophia Davis went 7-4.
In foil, both junior Kaitlyn Guo and senior Alison Wong went 9-6. Air Force's top competitor in saber was sophomore Erin Shea, who went 10-5.
Air Force returns to action Feb. 1-2 at the Northwestern Invitational in Evanston, Ill.
