Wrestling Hosts No. 18 Northern Iowa for Big 12 Dual

The Falcons will square up with the Panthers for the ninth time in program history

THIS WEEK: The Air Force Academy wrestling team returns to Clune Arena as they welcome in the No. 18 Northern Iowa Panthers for a Big 12 dual. Action against UNI is set to begin at noon.

LAST TIME OUT: The Falcons rolled to a pair of dual victories at the 30th Annual Borah Duals, Saturday morning, Jan. 11, on the campus of Western Colorado University. The Falcons defeated the host Mountaineers, 49-0, followed by a 38-9 win over CSU-Pueblo.
Air Force had a trio of wrestlers go 2-0 in competition, with senior Randy Meneweather leading the way with two pins, the first in 57 seconds, and the second in a 1:15. Sophomore Jared Van Vleet also had a dominating day, as he had a tech fall in match one, and a fall in match two in 2:25. Finally, fellow sophomore Trey Brisker won both of his hard fought matches, the first by major decision and the second by decision.
NATIONALLY RANKED FALCONS: Coming into the weekend, Air Force has a pair of its wrestlers gaining recognition in the national polls. At 125 lbs., sophomore Sidney Flores is tabbed at 17th overall by Trackwrestling, while at 165 lbs., senior Randy Meneweather is ranked 27th overall by TheOpenMat.
LAST SEASON VERSUS UNI: The Falcons fell to No. 15 Northern Iowa, 29-9, in Big 12 dual action Sunday afternoon, Jan. 20, at UNI's historic West Gym. The Falcons got three decision wins, but the firepower of the Panthers' six nationally ranked wrestlers proved too much to overcome.

ALL-TIME AGAINST THE PANTHERS: Sunday will mark the second time the two schools will meet as Big 12 rivals, but it will be the ninth all-time match-up between the two old Western Wrestling Conference foes. UNI leads the all-time tally, 6-2, including winning five in a row from 2005-2012. Air Force won the first ever meeting between the two back in 2002, as well as the meeting in 2013.
PINS ON PINS ON PINS: After the first half NCAA Division I wrestling action, Air Force has been one of the most dominant teams on the mats when it comes to pinning opponents. AF has 36 pins against D1 competition, which is the eighth-most of any other D1 team thus far.
In addition, junior Cody Surratt has 10 total pins this season, eight of which are against D1 competition, which is good for the fifth-most in the country. Randy Meneweather has seven D1 pins, which is good for 10th. In addition, Surratt has four D1 tech falls, which is good for ninth overall.
NEXT UP: The Falcons remain at home when they play host to the prestigious All Academy Championships, Saturday, Jan. 25 at the East Gym. Action against the six other service academies will run throughout the day.
