Air Force Splits Weekend at WAC Main Event

SEATTLE, Wash. – The Air Force boxing team returned to varsity competition this past weekend (Jan. 24-25), as it split an eight-bout outing at the annual WAC Main Event in Seattle. Sophomore Maksat Omar earned the team's Boxer of the Week award after pacing the squad with a pair of victories.
Competing in the 139-pound weight division, Omar picked up a victory over UCLA's Gimaggio Funes on Friday, before downing Miami-Ohio's Sailam Lu on Saturday.
He was one of two Falcons to compete on both nights of the WAC Main Event. Senior Levi Rate split a pair of 165-pound bouts, as he earned a victory over Washington's State Nick Meza on Friday and fell to Washington's Omar Abdirahman on Saturday.Senior Sean Chieves, who competed in the 139-pound weight class of Friday, rounded out the list of victors with a win over Oregon State's Brandon Martin.
Three sophomores also competed at the Washington Athletic Club this weekend, with Maddie Lloyd representing the women's team in a 145-pound bout against Washington's Christian Tun Zan on Friday, and Lawrence Barrett (130 pounds, San Jose State's Paul Hoang) and Ayaz Mustaga (155 pounds, California's Diego Renteria) competing on Saturday.
The Falcons head to Reno on Friday, Jan. 31, for the West Coast Showdown.
