In another epic chapter to the rivalry, Air Force football (3-3) was on the wrong end of the score, falling 10-7 to Army (9-2) in the 49th year of the Commander-In-Chief's trophy competition Saturday afternoon, Dec. 19, 2020, at Michie Stadium in West Point, NY.
Army rallied late with the game-winning touchdown with 1:13 left to play. Fullback Jakobi Buchanan punched it in from one-yard out on fourth down to give the Black Knights the win and CIC Trophy.
The loss overshadowed Air Force coming up with what it thought was a late-game rally.
Army led 3-0 after a field goal in the second quarter. The Falcons got on the scoreboard with 15 seconds left in the third quarter, when sophomore quarterback Haaziq Daniels found sophomore tight end Kyle Patterson in the end zone from 10 yards out for the go-ahead score.
The Falcons were unable to maintain the lead, as Army rallied back with the TD drive, which took 16 plays and 80 yards in seven minutes.
Air Force got the ball back with just over a minute left, but Daniels threw a game-ending interception on the first play of the drive. The Falcons were out of timeouts and the Black Knights were able to run the clock out to end the game.
Sophomore fullback Brad Roberts led Air Force with 83 yards rushing on 11 carries. Daniels added 61 on the ground. Patterson led Air Force with three catches for 65 yards.
Defensively, Air Force had six players reach double figures in tackles. Senior linebacker Will Trawick led the way with a career-high 14 tackles, which was also the most by a Falcon this season.
