Air Force Falls At Fresno State, 71-62

FRESNO, Calif. - Air Force men's basketball fell at Fresno State, 71-62, in Mountain West action Wednesday night at Save Mart Center. Senior Lavelle Scottie led the Falcons with 16 points.
Air Force (10-17, 4-11 MW) kept it close for most of the game, even taking a lead in the second half. Fresno State (10-17, 6-10 MW) was able to pull away, as the buckets just didn't fall for the Falcons late.
Fresno State used its size down low to out-rebound Air Force 43-33 and out-score the Falcons 28-18 in the paint. Noah Blackwell scored a game-high 25 points and Nate Grimes pulled down 14 rebounds to lead the Bulldogs.
Scottie paced three Falcons in double-figures. The senior hit three three's, adding four rebounds.
Chris Joyce and Sid Tomes also reached double-figures in scoring with 12 points each. Joyce connected on four three's on the night. Tomes added three, three-point baskets, to go with six rebounds and four assists. Ryan Swan had a team-high eight rebounds and AJ Walker had a team-high five assists.
Air Force shot just 35.9 percent from the field and went 3 for 5 from the free throw line. The Falcons did shoot it well from outside, connecting on 13 three's.
The Falcons trailed 32-28 at the half, rallying back from an 8-0 deficit to start the game. The Falcons came out strong to start the second half, taking a 36-35 lead on a three by Tomes with 17:41 to play.
Fresno State then responded with an 8-0 run to take control of the game. The Falcons got down by as many as 12 points before an 8-2 run pulled them to within six with 5:22 to play. Air Force was unable to get any closer as the Bulldogs pulled away.
Air Force returns to action Saturday, Feb. 22, hosting Wyoming. The game tips at 2 pm MT and will be broadcast by AT&T SportsNet.
