Series History vs. Navy
- Service Academy rivals Air Force and Navy have faced off 53 times in their respective histories, dating back to 1990.
- AF leads the all-time tally, 28-25
- The two teams first met on March 3, 1990, where
the Falcons swept a doubleheader, 9-1, 3-0, at the
Service Academies Spring Classic.
- At last season's Freedom Classic, AF took 2-of-3 from Navy, with the Falcons sweeping a doubleheader on that Sunday by scores of 6-4 (7 inn.) and 7-2.
- This marks the first time in the series history that games will be played at the home park of one of the teams. The previous 53 meetings were all at neutral sites.
Freedom Classic Cancelled
- The games were originally supposed to be played in Kinston, N.C. for the annual Freedom Classic, however with large amounts of snowfall in the area, the games had to be moved to Annapolis.
Last Week in Review
- The Falcons went 1-3 to start the year in a four game series played down in DeLand, Fla. AF split a two-game neutral site set with Manhattan, winning the opener, 4-3. Air Force then dropped the two games against the host Stetson Hatters.
Bullpen Getting it Done
A big highlight from opening weekend was the Falcon bullpen, who combined to pitch 15.1 innings and had a staff ERA of 2.98 with 11 strikeouts. Seven of the nine relievers did not allow an earned run at all.
Leading the way were a pair of freshmen, Jason Shuger and Cade Moulton. Shuger pitched 3.2 scoreless with three Ks, while Moulton tossed 2.1 shutout innings with two Ks.
Then sophomore and returning Freshman All-American Nathan Price pitched 2.2 scoreless in the opener to earn his first save on the year.
Easley & Price Named Preseason All-Conference
Senior outfielder Ashton Easley and sophomore pitcher Nathan Price were both named to the Mountain West Preseason All-Conference Team, announced Tuesday, Feb. 11. It is the first preseason accolades for both players. Both Easley and Price had outstanding campaigns in 2019, with both receiving recognition at season's end. Easley was named a Second Team All-Conference outfielder, while Price was selected as a Freshman All-American by Collegiate Baseball News.
Easley's Eye on the Record Book
Senior OF Ashton Easley enters the 2020 season with the potential to have a serious impact on the AF record book. Already, he is 11th in career triples with 11 and 10th in career stolen bases with 48. If he maintains his career averages in numerous categories, he will also reach the upper echelons on the Falcon record book before season's end.
On the Horizon
The Falcons will remain in North Carolina as they participate in the Armed Forces Invitational in Fayetteville, N.C. against Army and Campbell. Games will be played Friday-Sunday, Feb. 28-March 1 at Segra Stadium home to the Fayetteville Woodpeckers, who are the High-A affiliate of the Houston Astros.
