Wrestling Hosts Northern Colorado for Senior Day

The Falcons have won four straight duals over the Bears

THIS WEEK: The Air Force Academy wrestling team wraps up the 2019-20 regular season Sunday afternoon, Feb. 23, when they host Big 12 and in-state rival Northern Colorado in dual action. The match between the Falcons and Bears inside Clune Arena will get underway at 2 p.m. MT.
FOLLOWING THE ACTION: The dual will have a free live stream on Trackwrestling, while live results will also be on Track. Fans can also follow the action live on Twitter, @AF_Wrestle.
LAST TIME OUT: The Falcons went 0-2 in Big 12 Dual action this past weekend, falling on the road to Oklahoma, 24-10, and North Dakota State, 31-6.
AF had a couple big highlights, including freshman Dylan Martinez knocking off the No. 31 ranked wrestler at 149 lbs., as part of their three bout wins against the Sooners. The Falcons also got a major decision against OU.
ALL-TIME AGAINST THE BEARS: Sunday will mark the 32nd all-time meeting between the long time in-state rivals. Since their first meeting back in 1976, AF leads the tally, 19-12. The Falcons have won four straight in the series, including the 31-6 drubbing last season in Greeley.
NATIONALLY RANKED FALCONS: Coming into the weekend, Air Force has three of its wrestlers gaining recognition in the national polls. At 125, sophomore Sidney Flores is tabbed at 32 overall by two outlets, while at 165, senior Randy Meneweather is ranked 24 overall by TheOpenMat and at 141, junior Lenny Petersen is 33 by Trackwrestling. Both Flores and Meneweather are also ranked in the second NCAA Coaches Panel, which is one of the three deciding factors when it comes to NCAA Tournament bids.
One of the other deciding factors into NCAA bids is the NCAA's RPI ranking system. There, AF has three ranked, including Petersen (31st), Meneweather (22nd) and sophomore 184 pounder Jake Thompson (33rd).
LAST SEASON VERSUS UNC: Air Force won eight of ten matches to run away with a 31-6 Big 12 dual win over the University of Northern Colorado, Sunday afternoon, Feb. 24, at Bank of Colorado Arena. The Falcons won the final six matches, including the last three by bonus points.

In addition, junior Cody Surratt and senior Randy Meneweather both have nine D1 pins on the season, with Surratt's coming in 11:50 and Meneweather's in 20:53. This ranks them eighth and tenth in the country, respectively. AF is the only team in the nation with two in the top-10.
NEXT UP: The Falcons will have a week off from competition as they prepare for the 2020 Big 12 Championships. The tournament will take place March 7-8 at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Okla.
