"Chris made the ultimate sacrifice for his team at this year's Mountain West Indoor Championship meet," head coach Ralph Lindeman said. "Having trained for three-and-a-half years as a pole vaulter, and having been selected to compete at the conference championships for the first time, he chose to also compete in the heptathlon and help the team secure additional points towards the team title. With little or no advanced training, he placed sixth in the event, and them came back just an hour later to place fifth in the pole vault; contributing seven total points to our team's score. That was the epitome of selflessness by a cadet-athlete."
