Air Force Grinds Out 24-17 Road Win At Boise State

Air Force football (6-1, 3-1 MW) defeated Boise State (3-4, 1-2 MW) on the blue turf, 24-17, in a hard-fought Mountain West road win Saturday at Albertson's Stadium in Boise, Idaho. The Falcons gain bowl eligibility and improve to 6-1 for the first time since 2002.

After Boise State scored on its opening drive, Air Force out-scored the Broncos 24-10 the rest of the way out.

The Falcons responded with touchdowns on its first two possesions to go ahead 14-7. The first drive went for 14 plays and 75 yards, capped by a four-yard touchdown run by fullback Brad Roberts. Air Force took the lead on a 25-yard run by quarterback Haaziq Daniels early in the second quarter.

After Boise State tied the game up with a touchdown, Air Force took the lead for good on a one-yard run by Roberts with 6:12 to go in the second quarter.

The defenses took over in the second half with both teams trading fourth-quarter field goals for the lone scoring in the latter half.

Air Force took advantage of a costly Boise State turnover to add its field goal. The Falcons recovered a fumble on a punt at the Bronco 15 yard line. The Falcons turned the turnover into a 28-yard field goal by Matthew Dapore with 2:49 left in the game to up 24-14.

Boise State made things interesting by kicking a field goal with 49 second left in the game, then recovered an onside kick. But senior Tre Bugg III intercepted Boise quarterback Hank Bachmeier on the very next play to seal the win for the Falcons.

Air Force ran for 307 total yards and held the ball for 37 minutes. Roberts, who entered the game leading the conference in rushing yards, led Air Force with 138 yards rushing on 28 carries. It was his third straight game over 100 yards and the fifth of the season.

Daniels added 83 yards on 21 carries. He also completed 1 of 5 passing attempts. His one completion was good for 59 yards to receiver Brandon Lewis.

Bachmeier was 23 of 36 passing for 259 yards for Boise State.

Linebacker Alec Mock led Air Force with a career-high 11 tackles. Safety Camby Goff and Bugg both had career-high's of eight tackles each. Goff added a sack and fumble.

Air Force returns to action next Saturday, Oct. 23, hosting #24 San Diego State. The game kicks at 5 pm MT and will be televised by CBS Sports Network.
