U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – Freshman Cameron Kahle led the Air Force golf team on the final day of the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate, Tuesday, Oct. 19, at the N.M. State Golf Course in Las Cruces.
As a team, the Falcons shot a three-round score of 894, the best of the season, to finish seventh. The team's 292 in the second round was also the best of the season and tied as the third-best score in the second round of the tournament.
New Mexico State, the host school, won the tournament with an 859 (+4) while Northern Colorado was second (867). Air Force's seventh-place finish was the highest in any tournament this season.
Junior Isaac Layne led the Falcons with a 218, his best 54-hole score of the season to tie for 14th overall at the tournament.
Kahle's 72 (+1) is the second-best round of his collegiate career. He tied for 33rd overall, second on the team, with a 54-hole score of 225. About as consistent as possible, Kahle had two bogies and one birdie in the final round.
Freshman Christopher Park came in with a season-best 226, followed by Aaron Kuznik (236) and Max Heupel (240).
Two Falcons competed as individuals. Sophomore Sawyer Pierce, playing in his first collegiate tournament, shot a 75 in both the second and third rounds for a 54-hole score of 235. Senior Jonathan Farmer came in at 242.
Air Force closes out the fall schedule, Oct. 29-31, at the annual Ka'anapali Collegiate at the Ka'anapali Golf Club, Royal Ka'anapali Course, in Lahaina, Maui.
