Falcons travel to Ka‘anapali Classic

THIS WEEK: The Air Force golf team travels to the Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational, Oct. 29-31. The tournament will begin at 8 am HT (noon MT) each day with a shotgun start at the Ka'anapali Golf Club-Royal Ka'anapali Course, in Lahaina, Maui. Teams will play 18 holes each day at the par-17, 6,700-yard course. Live stats will be available on www.golfstat.com.
THE FIELD: Along with Air Force and the host school Hawai'I, the tournament features Boise State, Colorado, Connecticut, CSU Northridge, Denver, Gonzaga, Kansas, Loyola (Md.), Nevada, Sacramento State and Wyoming.
THE LINEUP: The Air Force lineup this week will be: 1. Isaac Layne; 2. Christopher Park; 3. Aaron Kuznik; 4. Cameron Kahle; 5. Sawyer Pierce. The lineup consists of one junior (Layne), two sophomores (Kuznik and Pierce) and two freshmen (Kahle and Park).
INSIDE THE LINEUP: Layne, Park and Kuznik have played in all five team tournaments (15 rounds). Kahle has also played in all five tournaments, one those being the Gene Miranda Falcon Individual event. Layne leads the team with a 76.47 season stroke average and has a season low round of 69 at the Herb Wimberly Invitational. Kahle is second on the team is season stroke average (77.67), while Kuznik is third (77.87) and Park is fourth (78.20). Pierce, a sophomore, was on the football roster as a quarterback in the 2019 season. His first collegiate golf tournament was last week's Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate and he shot 75 in each of the last two rounds, competing as an individual. This week's tournament is his first competing as a member of the team.
HISTORY ON MAUI: The Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational was cancelled in 2020 due to COVID. Air Force placed 16th (862) in 2019 and 20th (880) in 2018.
LAST WEEK: Air Force posted several season bests at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate, Oct. 18-19, in Las Cruces, N.M. As a team, the Falcons shot a three-round score of 894, the best of the season, to finish seventh. The team's 292 in the second round was also the best of the season. Junior Isaac Layne led the Falcons with a 218, his best 54-hole score of the season, to tie for 14th overall at the tournament. Cameron Kahle's 72 (+1) in the final round is the second-best round of his collegiate career. He tied for 33rd overall, second on the team, with a 54-hole score of 225.
NEXT UP: The Ka'anapali Classic concludes the fall season for the Falcons. Air Force is off until the Classic Club Match Play, Feb. 11-12, in Palm Desert, Calif.
