Falcons Split Week with Nevada, San Jose State

The Falcons will host Nevada on Oct. 21, before traveling to San Jose State on Oct. 23.
At the midway point of the Mountain West season, Air Force will split the weekend for its only meetings of the year with Nevada and San Jose State. The Falcons will host the Wolfpack at the Academy on Thursday, Oct. 21, before traveling to California to face the Spartans on Saturday, Oct. 23.

Thursday's home match will be broadcast live on the Mountain West Network, with Jason Carter and George Egan on the call, while Saturday's road match will also be available on MWN. Live stats will also be available via StatBroadcast.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Nevada, 3-16 on the season and winless in Mountain West action, is coming off of a 0-3 losses to San Jose State and Fresno State last week. Sydney Peterson is ranked among the league's top five in overall hitting (.363, fourth), while Andrea Alcaraz and Kaila Spevak are ranked fifth in assists (7.34) and digs (3.72), respectively. San Jose State improved to 11-7 on the year – and 5-3 in conference play, with a pair of mid-week victories over Nevada and Fresno State. Currently tied for third in the conference, the Spartans lead the league in kills (13.16), assists (12.32), aces (2.08) and digs (15.11) in overall matches, while averaging a MW-best 1.90 aces-per-set in conference play. SJSU, which will play at New Mexico on Thursday, has the league-leader in assists (Mia Schafer, 10.31) and digs (Sarah Smevog, 4.48) during Mountain West matches.

With a 9-10 lifetime record, Air Force is just narrowly under .500 against Nevada. The Falcons have claimed four of their last six meetings with the Wolfpack and are an even 4-4 at the Academy. Air Force is 5-14 all-time against San Jose State, with just one of those victories coming away from Cadet East Gym.
AIR FORCE IN THE CONFERENCE STANDINGS
Joi Harvey is ranked third in the Mountain West in both hitting (.388) and blocks (1.14 per set) for all matches, while holding the No. 4 placement in hitting (.394) during conference contests. Harvey is one of two Falcons listed among the league's top 10 in hitting, as Mac Russ is ninth (.348) in conference matches and Taleah Cooper is 10th in all matches (.320).
KEITH NAMED SENIOR CLASS AWARD CANDIDATE
Bailey Keith was named one of 30 nationwide candidates for volleyball's 2021 Senior CLASS Award on Oct. 7 – an annual award honor that recognizes NCAA volleyball student-athletes who excel both on-and-off the court. Keith, the only candidate from the Mountain West, is the first Air Force volleyball player to be selected as a Senior CLASS Award candidate.
WELCOME BACK
Fans are invited back to Air Force Volleyball matches this fall, but current Defense Department and Air Force Academy rules require all individuals to wear a mask inside Academy facilities. All individuals who have not been fully vaccinated must wear masks outside on military installations.
WHAT'S ON DECK
Air Force returns to the Academy next week, as it begins the second half of the conference's home-and-home calendar hosting Colorado State and Wyoming. The Falcons, who faced both opponents on the road last week, will host the Rams at 6:00 p.m., on Saturday, Oct. 28, before welcoming the Cowgirls to Cadet East Gym at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, Oct. 30.
