SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Air Force very much played as if its postseason life depended on tonight's result, though the scoreboard did not fall in favor of the Falcons in a 1-0 loss to San Diego State.
Defender Jennifer McFadden played all 90 minutes, and was tied for the team-lead with two shots on goal. Faith Lee also managed of pair of shots on goal in her 75 minutes. Cassi Bych and Grace Sublette offered shots on target as well, with Air Force finishing the evening with six of their seven shot attempts on goal.
Air Force began the evening one point outside of a position in the Mountain West Conference Tournament, so it was no surprise Larry Friend's team brought an intensity with them to the West coast. Faith Lee and Stella Rubidoux each received yellow cards, while three Aztecs were also booked.
The lone score of the game took place in the 61st minute, as SDSU's Daniela Filipovic set up Ana Toohey for a goal. The Falcons were conscientious of their shot attempts this evening, though the team created only two shots following the Aztec goal.
With the loss, the Falcons (10 pts.) now sit in 8th within the Mountain West with two games still to be played. Next, Air Force heads to Albuquerque for an afternoon matchup with New Mexico on Sunday, October 24. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 pm MT.
