Air Force can't find goal in loss to Nevada

USAFA, Colo. - On an afternoon to celebrate the 2022 graduates of the women's soccer program, the atmosphere of the day was dented following the final whistle, as Air Force was unable to find a goal in a 2-0 loss to Nevada. The Falcons were threatening in the final third of the pitch, managing 19 shots, though only three were on goal.
"I give a lot of credit to Nevada," said head coach Larry Friend. "They came into our house and really wanted the game. They fought hard."
Nevada's Emily Rich was the lone goal scorer of the day, finding the back of the net in the 48th and 80th minute. Jordi Ives led the Falcons in shots with five, while Mia Otero and Cassi Bych each managed three shots of their own.
The Falcons were not as energetic as they appeared on Friday, and given the caliber of competition in the Mountain West and the excessive minutes on the pitch, Air Force certainly has reasons for a subdued performance.
"We expended a tremendous amount of energy on Friday night," said Friend. "We were sluggish today and couldn't get a rhythm going. The Mountain West is a difficult conference. It's going to be a tight race to the last game.
"We'll bounce back and be ready for Wyoming this Friday on the road."
As Coach Friend hinted, Air Force (5-5-1, 2-2) will travel to Laramie on Friday before traveling back north for a matchup in Fort Collins with Colorado State on Sunday.
