Falcons lose heartbreaker in Laramie
10/8/2021 5:09:00 PM | Women's Soccer
LARAMIE, Wyo. - A tough, physical matchup between Air Force and Wyoming went the way of the home side in the final minutes, as a Cowgirls goal with under three minutes remaining was enough to beat the Falcons 2-1.
Air Force managed only three shots on goal, one of which became Faith Lee's fourth goal of the season. Bella Colandrea and Jenna Rubidoux were responsible for the remaining shots on goal. In spite of the loss, goalkeeper Cammi Bych, who was under siege for most of the afternoon, still provided five saves. Wyoming outshot Air Force 14-4 and 7-3 in the shots on goal margin.
The Cowgirls were the first to score in the 31st minute, where a prolonged offensive attack was eventually rewarded with a goal. Lee's score came only five minutes later, as she embarked on an extended run through the Wyoming defense before knocking a top-shelved, booming shot over the head of the Cowgirl keeper .
A gritty 90 minutes is the only apt description for what took place, with both sides combining for 24 fouls. In the witching hour of regulation, a Wyoming counter-attack was rewarded with an offensive advantage. Following a couple of passes and a nifty touch, the Cowgirls tucked away the game-winning goal with just over two minutes remaining, where the Falcons were unable to produce another patented miraculous finish.
Air Force (5-6-1, 2-3) will have a day and a half to prepare for Colorado State in Fort Collins on Sunday, October 10. Kickoff is scheduled for 3 PM MT.
